Commute & getting around
How getting around Lake Norman works: I-77, the I-77 Express Lanes, and sourced drive distances to Uptown Charlotte and the airport.
How do people commute from Lake Norman to Charlotte?
Most drive I-77, which runs along the east side of the lake. The I-77 Express Lanes offer a tolled option with dynamic pricing between the lake towns and Charlotte.
How far is the airport?
Davidson is about 27 miles from Charlotte Douglas International Airport, off-peak. Ask us for the route from the address you are actually considering.
East side vs. west side
Towns along I-77 (Huntersville, Cornelius, Davidson and Mooresville) sit closest to the interstate. West-side areas such as Denver and Sherrills Ford reach Charlotte by NC 16 and NC 73 or by crossing to I-77, so we run the drive for each address.
Drive distances we can source
We publish a drive distance only where we can point at a source for it. For the other lake towns, ask us and we will run the route for the address you are actually considering rather than quoting a number we cannot stand behind.
